India claimed a 190-run lead in the Hyderabad Test riding on 80s from Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. Only once have India lost a Test after taking a lead of 190 or more – by 63 runs to Sri Lanka in Galle in 2015 after a first innings lead of 192.

England have blazed off the blocks in the second innings. The scorecard reads 125/3 after 25 overs, with Jonny Bairstow and Ollie Pope occupying the crease. While Ravichandran Ashwin had Zac Crawley nicking to slip, Jasprit Bumrah knocked over Ben Duckett and trapped Joe Root plumb.

Earlier, India added just 15 runs to their overnight score of 421 for 7. Mark Wood and Joe Root kept it tight and Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel were happy to bat defensively because more time spent on the pitch equals more deterioration.

On the second day, Axar went into Stumps on a high with a four, six and four off the last three balls. Despite that, India went at under three runs an over since the wicket of KL Rahul, but they still added 133 runs for the loss of just two wickets. It meant more time spent on the pitch, more deterioration, and also more runs in the bank for India. Jadeja has a century in sight, and his partnership with fellow southpaw Axar read 63 in 19.3 overs.

Earlier, England crashed to 155/7 from 121/3. Having started slowly, it was captain Ben Stokes who came to their rescue. He targetted Jadeja in particular and reached his fifty in style with back-to-back sixes.
