ESPN analyst calls for Dallas Cowboys to look at Spencer Rattler in 2024 NFL Draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys still have multiple needs entering the final day of the 2024 NFL Draft. ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum joined SportsCenter on Saturday and shared who he believes the Cowboys should take.

Tannenbaum feels strongly that Dallas should give a hard look to former South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler.

“The Dallas Cowboys actually need to start at the quarterback position given the uncertainty of Dak Prescott,” Tannenbaum said. “You don’t know if he’s going to be there next year with a massive cap number. So let’s look at Spencer Rattler.

“Spencer Rattler got a lot better. He had transferred [to South Carolina] from Oklahoma, and he can make all the throws. Very good athlete. I thought he did a good job this year at South Carolina.”

If the Dallas Cowboys are indeed going to draft Rattler, they may need to move up to do so. The former five-star recruit is one of the top players available entering the fourth round, and the Cowboys do not have a pick until the fifth round, as things stand.

Tannenbaum also mentioned other players the Dallas Cowboys could look at. Sticking with the SEC, he believes they should consider a couple of running backs.

“Also, at running back, you have an explosive player here in Jaylen Wright [from Tennessee]. Ray Davis from Kentucky is another productive back. But they need a starter to replace Tony Pollard,” Tannenbaum said.

Shane Beamer breaks down what makes Spencer Rattler special

If Spencer Rattler does indeed end up with the Dallas Cowboys, Shane Beamer believes the Cowboys would be adding a special player.

Ahead of the NFL Draft, Beamer broke down what he loves about his former QB.

“With Spencer, the competitor he is,” Beamer said. “Obviously the talent speaks for itself. But I know that he’s really impressed a lot of NFL teams with the way that he dealt with adversity last year here at Carolina and the plays that he’s made during his time here, for sure.”

Rattler threw for 3,186 and 19 touchdowns in 2023, overcoming poor offensive line play to still put up impressive numbers.

He was ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 19 overall player in the country in the class of 2019, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Rattler started his career at Oklahoma, before transferring to South Carolina. While he was knocked some as a player and teammate during his time with the Sooners, he excelled on and off the field with the Gamecocks.
