We could see former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley back on the sidelines rather quickly.
Matt Miocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported that San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shannan said he'd interviewed Staley for their vacant defensive coordinator job.

Maiocco also reported that the 49ers interviewed their defensive passing game coordinator, Nick Sorensen.
Although Staley failed miserably with the Los Angeles Chargers as a head coach, a coordinator could suit him better. The last time he was a coordinator, Staley led the Los Angeles Rams to the number one total defense in 2020.
There's a ton of stigma regarding Staley. However, in the small sample size we have of him as a coordinator, he would do just fine in that position.
Staley was fired after leading the Chargers to a 24-25 overall record, including a 0-1 playoff record in three seasons as the head coach. It wasn't a good hire from the start, but one could argue it was more the Chargers' fault than Staley's.
It's neither here nor there now. There's a chance the 41-year-old could be back on the sidelines and coach a defense with immense talent in the 49ers.
